CASTING COMPONENT

Metal bearing shell

Outer shell of a marine shaft bearing

The metal shell supports a separate rubber or composite bearing lining. It is not a complete water-lubricated bearing.

Material options

Naval-brass familyExact grade to be specified

Used for metal shells in some water-lubricated marine bearings. Shell alloy, lining system and shaft conditions must be reviewed together; the family name does not establish a casting grade.

A numerical grade cannot be inferred from “naval brass”. Provide the bearing drawing and approved material specification before material selection.

Information for your quotation

Shell dimensions
Bore, outside diameter, length, wall thickness and retention arrangement.
Lining interface
Lining material, bonding or retention method, allowances and installation tolerances.
